— Finance & Commerce, a leading resource for business leaders in the Twin Cities, announced Steve Wellington, chief executive officer of Wellington Management Inc. (WMI), as one of 17 Minnesota Icon honorees, honoring distinguished leaders whose careers have left a lasting impact.
A panel of judges selected these individuals for their demonstrated professional excellence and for inspiring others through mentorship and leadership, embodying what it truly means to be an icon.
Wellington, who has shaped the Twin Cities’ commercial and residential landscape for nearly four decades, also serves as chair of Drake Bank’s board of directors. Since founding Wellington Management Inc. in 1984, he has developed or acquired more than 100 properties across the region, managing a $750 million portfolio and providing space to hundreds of businesses and residents. His career began in public service with the City of St. Paul, where he oversaw major redevelopment projects. He has since combined business success with civic leadership by serving on the board of Regions Hospital Foundation and founding the Beacon Interfaith Housing Collaborative, which has completed more than 400 affordable housing units.
